Jeb Bush’s public image is somewhat miscellaneous currently.
Being the third member of the Bush family to run for office I think people of
America don’t want to see another Bush to lead this country. As I learned in
class even his own mother agrees on not having another Clinton or Bush to be in
office. On the other hand being Florida’s
governor for many years he does have the experience needed to run this country.
While his time as governor, he was credited
with initiating improvements in the environment, and reforming the education
system, which are key issues to be looked at. The more people see his
success in politics the better his chances will be in terms of being liked and
attaining more voters to vote for him. Some ways for Jeb Bush to make his
image more successful would be to distinguish himself away from his brother, who
is one of the most un-liked presidents the United States that had many
disasters. I think one very smart marketing decision that he has done is with
his posters that just say “Jeb!” Leaving his last name out for a smart reason. However,
being part of the Bush family he does relate to his brother at times saying he
would have invaded Iraq after 9/11, which many disagree shouldn’t have
happened. I think he should stay clear from relating to his brother because
that will start more unneeded arguments and speculation on his image. Next I think
Jeb needs to show that he is more intellectual and articulate than his brother
George. The more people think that they are opposites, the better it will be for
his voters and campaign.
Strengths: First, we know that Jeb Bush has
experience being a governor of Texas and Florida’s Governor for many years,
which gives him a lot of knowledge in running for President. Another key
strength is that Jeb is bilingual and has an Hispanic wife. I think him winning
in Florida that has a densely Hispanic population was largely due to his Hispanic
roots and his relationships with Hispanics. There are many other states where
this will be very beneficial and shows great interest on Hispanic issues.
Weaknesses: As I stated earlier people put Jeb in the
category with his dad and brother and is not seen in a positive light. This highly
due to the disasters that his brother George had in office. I think some people
feel that he has the same values and interests as his family.
Opportunities: Jeb is very involved in the education
system and wants opportunity for full immersion for English learners. This will
also make the Hispanic population very pleased.
Threats: Jeb supporting the Common Core in education and
is a threat to his campaign in that the education community once supported it
and now do not.
In terms of issues I think Jeb Bush will highlight immigration
and immigration reform. I think the decisions that he will make will be highly
influence the Hispanic voters. Second important thing to Jeb is education with
no child left behind. Third, would be the importance of climate change and that
it’s a real concern for the nation with all the natural disasters happening. Third,
he wants to expand gun owner’s rights. There are many issues, but the last one I
will share in on marijuana. Overall each state should decide on legalization of
marijuana.
